Start with WIT
Updated: 3 hours ago
GIVE YOUR AI SOME WIT. Start with the AI you already use. No coding, no new WIT app, and no need to understand technical jargon.
What is WIT?
WIT, short for Witburrow, is a free set of instructions and reusable tools designed to help an AI assistant become more organized and useful over time. It is not another AI model. It gives an existing assistant a clearer way to manage goals, decisions, tasks, and evidence.
Regular AI can already answer questions, write emails, plan trips and brainstorm. WIT focuses on the part that comes next: what has actually been done, what still needs doing, what must not be forgotten, and what is the smartest next step?
Try WIT in three steps
WIT is an instruction-based framework, not a standalone app. It is free; your existing AI host may charge for its own features. No account connection is needed for this first text-only task.
1. Open the first-task instructions below.
2. Paste the first-try example into a fresh conversation with your existing AI. If it cannot read the public Bob instructions for a technical reason, open the plain-text link and paste those contents when asked. An explicit access denial must be respected.
3. Review the useful draft. Check that facts, suggestions and unknowns are separate, and that no item is marked complete unless it really is. Then try one small task of your own.
ChatGPT: the November 6 temporary web-chat tests produced a truthful checklist and complete return card. Gemini remains experimental: the guest handoff failed; a revised signed-in text-only test produced a complete card, but its source-read reporting was incomplete. Android and other hosts remain unverified.
Keep your result and return
If no save was attempted, the result must say NOT SAVED and include the actual draft, your facts, suggestions, unknowns and one next action. If a save was attempted but its outcome or readback is uncertain, say SAVE OUTCOME UNVERIFIED and inspect the exact destination before retrying. Only an authorized write and matching readback justify SAVED AND READ BACK. Copy that complete card into a note or file you control. When you return, paste it into a fresh chat and check it before continuing. A card that only says “see above” is incomplete. Memory and permissions do not transfer automatically.
The larger stable starter, handbook and full setup remain optional. Try the small task before choosing storage, profiles or extra tools.
What do I actually say to it?
Talk normally. For example: I want to get my household budget under control, but I do not know where to start. Help me make a simple plan.
WIT is intended to break that into manageable steps, distinguish your decisions from suggestions, identify missing information, and keep a clear next action. You can also say: Summarize what we have finished, what is still open, and what you need from me.
Other everyday uses include planning a move, studying for an exam, organizing household jobs, working on a book, comparing practical options, and keeping a small project on track.
Why bother?
Because getting an answer is not always the same as getting something done. Longer projects need continuity: decisions, task status, clear next actions, and honest progress reports. WIT provides structured instructions for that work instead of requiring you to invent a fresh system every time.
What makes WIT different?
1. Grow at your pace. Start with ordinary conversation. Add more structured tools only when your work actually calls for them.
2. Carry the method. WIT is designed around reusable instructions and records instead of requiring all knowledge to live inside one AI service. Actual cross-provider behavior remains subject to compatibility tests.
3. Reuse solutions. A growing tool library aims to make useful methods and utilities easier to discover rather than reinventing them for every problem.
4. Ask for proof. WIT distinguishes ideas, drafts, tests and verified completion. An AI saying done is not the same as a saved file, completed task or successful real-world result.
5. Respect boundaries. WIT is meant to keep permissions explicit, flag missing information, and distinguish what the assistant can suggest from what it is authorized and technically able to do.
What are Bob and Combo-Breaker?
They are names for parts of the WIT approach, not extra apps a beginner needs to install. Bob is the reusable tool-building concept. Combo-Breaker is the review and cleanup method that challenges weak assumptions, unnecessary duplication and wasted steps. You can ignore both names until you want advanced features.
Is WIT better than ChatGPT on its own?
That is not yet proven as a universal claim. ChatGPT and other assistants already offer memory, project features, task organization and connected tools. WIT proposes a particular operating method on top of those features. Some public source tools and starter workflows are available today; larger cross-AI reliability and overall time-saving claims still need independent measurement.
What can it NOT automatically do?
Installing instructions does not give your AI new capabilities, permission to access private accounts, or guaranteed long-term memory. Persistent project records depend on storage the AI can actually use. Scheduled activity requires a real supported scheduling feature. If the assistant cannot save something, it should say NOT SAVED and provide a copyable update.
Never share passwords or confidential information just to try a public starter. Only connect accounts or authorize external actions you understand. The starter itself does not install a hidden agent.
What is available today?
The public WIT starter, handbook, example workflows and early source tools are available now. Tools in the library have individual setup steps and limitations; some are experiments rather than finished consumer products.
One easy first test
After your first task, try a small project of your own. Ask the AI to keep decisions, completed work, blockers and the next action clear. Do not accept a save claim without verified readback.
When you return, paste your complete return card into a fresh chat, or retrieve an authorized saved record and check it. If neither is available, say that no previous record was retrieved; do not invent it or rely on memory.
The short version
Your AI already knows a lot. WIT is designed to help it work with you more consistently: organize the job, keep decisions straight, check the result, and find the next useful move.
Witburrow is an evolving public project. Published instructions, tested functions and future goals are not interchangeable. This guide describes the intended everyday experience and today's available starter; it does not promise independent compatibility or measured productivity gains.
